January 1, 2023
Have you chosen a “word of the year” to help you notice and focus on something important in 2023?
My word is “heart.” A wise man once wrote:
“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.”
(Proverbs 4:23 The Passion Translation)
Our hearts determine the direction of our decisions and our days. By hearts, it means our will, our emotions, our minds.
King David was described as a man after God’s own heart. By God’s grace, I want that to be like that.
At a friend’s funeral, someone said that he “organized his whole life around God and what was important to Him.” How wonderfully true of this man’s life.
Have you ever lost something of value? There is nothing worse than “losing heart.” This usually means losing our joy, our perseverance, our courage. ( Indeed, the word “courage” comes from the French word for heart!)
I am aiming to pay attention to my heart this year, so I do not “lose it”!
