We live in the woods, one hour by car from the nearest city. The last part of the journey home is a winding, hilly, private road through the forest.
This time of year, it is snowy and gets dark early.
Recently, I drove to “civilization” to do some appointments and errands. This took longer than expected. Darkness had descended by the time I entered our driveway. Over the rise, before all of the house was in view, I saw the outdoor floodlights gleaming welcome home.
An extra bonus: As I crested the rise, the full view of the house showed that Dave was waiting outside.
“Thanks for putting on the lights!” I said.
“Well, I was going to go looking for you soon.” He smiled.
The image of him waiting in the cold for me reminded me of this quotation:
“ Love is a decision to serve someone.”
