Deeds well done have a beauty all their own. God is good, and we are made in his image, so acts of goodness resonate with us.
The other day, I sat in the chiropractor’s waiting room, next to a new mother with her seven week old baby girl.
Not a particularly pretty baby, but so new and sweet and full of potential from God. Her mother was not in fancy clothes, and the towel over her shoulder bore the marks of baby spit. Oh, but her tender care for this little one! It was a joy to watch.
Recently I attended a baby shower for a yet-unborn little boy. The house was decorated for this event with a Winnie the Pooh theme, with honey and decorative bees featured. Every detail spoke of love and care and joy for this new mother-to-be.
My husband loves to help people. Behind our house is a parking area with a hill leading out to the road. If my car is not pointed in that direction, and I have to either back up or turn around to get out, the results are tedious at best. (I have perfected the five point turn!)
Usually Dave quietly turns it around before I go out the door. A good deed well done.
One of his favorite verses is from Paul’s letter to Timothy:
“So also good deeds are conspicuous; and even when they are not, they cannot remain hidden.” ( I Timothy 5:25 RSV)
