Life is like a roller coaster ride. If you watch this kind of ride at an amusement park, all is quiet from the passengers at first. The upward climb is peaceful. Then the speedy descent evokes loud screams.

Level places in life allow us to catch our breath, and calm our nerves. Then life takes a downward direction: an illness, the loss of a loved one, a career or financial problem. We feel like shrieking, but often only do this silently.

At the amusement park, people pay to experience the combination of peace and adrenaline rush of fear. They like this!

What we cannot realize when we are born is that just by being part of the human race, we are lined up for the roller coaster ride called Life.

A humorous note: Years ago, we spent a day at Canada’s Wonderland. I hate roller coasters, but agreed to accompany young Julie on the easiest one there, “The Ghoster Coaster.”

When I was not busy screaming, I could hear the loud rattle of the old style rails. This sound did not make me feel safe and secure. They had cameras along the way, so that later, people could buy a photo of themselves in terror.

My chuckling husband gladly paid to get a picture of me, mouth wide open, screaming.
