Henry Ford, automobile builder, said this:
Most people get ahead during the time that others waste.
The poor and the rich, the learned and the illiterate, the famous and the unknown, all have something in common: 168 hours to use each week.
Years ago, Wild West settlers in covered wagons had their “do-lists” mapped out under the heading “Surviving.” Finding water, staying healthy, avoiding predators, human and otherwise, creating meals (without a nearby grocery store or fast food place.)
Fast forward to our lives today: most of us have so many pleasant distractions because of technology, and our basic needs for food and shelter met, that we face new challenges.
Someone said we should calculate our “E to E Ratio.” This means recording our “Entertainment to Education Ratio.
Of the discretionary time we have after work and family responsibilities, personal grooming, exercise etc, what is our E to E ratio? For instance, if I have 14 discretionary hours, and I spend 10 watching mindless videos and 4 listening to education podcasts or documentaries, then my ration is 10 to 4.
Our minds and personal development are too important.
