Chances are that you have a friend, need a friend, or are a friend. It is also possible that you miss a friend: someone who has passed away, or moved away. (This could be geographical or emotional.)
Nevertheless, some people are in our lives limited by a season or a reason. Such is life. But we still grieve…
For sure, friends shape us and define us. While we may have connections that are civic, family, or romantic, friends form a unique category.
Here is a poem by Spencer M. Free:
‘Tis the human touch in the world that counts –
The touch of your hand in mine-
Which means far more to the sinking heart
Than shelter or bread or wine.
For shelter is gone when the night is o’er,
And bread lasts only for days,
But the touch of the hand and the sound of the voice,
Live on in the soul always.
Perhaps the most astounding names for Jesus Christ are:
“Emmanuel” (God with us)
and
“Friend of sinners”
Some people “name drop” by saying that they know, or are friends with, some famous person.
But how about saying: “The Creator of the entire universe is my friend.” Wow!
