With current news headlines full of discord, anger, violence, and death, I wanted a Word of the Year for 2024 to be an antidote to these realities. A focus to mitigate all the ugliness in our world.
My word is: BEAUTY. We tend to think of this as a visual label, but really it applies to all the senses. And beauty is as much a reality as the harsh headlines.
Sight: blue sky and white clouds ,flaming fall colors, majestic mountains, stately cala lilies
Sound: water lapping on the shore, symphonies played by gifted musicians, babies and children giggling
Smell: bread baking, coffee brewing, lavender on a breeze
Taste: my mother’s strawberry pie, bacon tomato sandwiches, well-grilled steak
Touch: baby’s soft skin, paper book pages, flower petals
There. I feel better already! Since God Himself is beautiful, He creates it everywhere. And I am delighted to spend this year on a treasure hunt for beauty.
